The Brandling difference

The thinking and the making, in one pair of hands.

Most businesses don't need more marketing stuff. They need sharper positioning, clearer messaging and a plan that makes the work they're already doing count. Big-brand work splits that across two teams, with a handover where a lot gets lost. Brandling keeps it in one pair of hands, so the idea you sign off on is the idea that ships. 18+ years doing both, across some of Australia's most recognised brands.

About Andy

Hi, I’m Andy.

Andy Sutherland, founder of Brandling
The one doing the juggling

18+ years building brands for Qantas, CommBank, GoDaddy and AMP. The projects I love most are the ones where a founder is being brave and hustling hard, and the thinking actually changes something for the person running the business.

Brandling is that, made practical: senior strategy, marketing, design and hands-on AI support, for a small number of clients at a time. You get my full attention, not an account manager.

“If I’m not the right person for something, I’ll tell you straight, and point you to someone who is.”

In their words

Andy was the driving force behind crafting our brand strategy for the AMP Bank launch, and she did it with style and flair. She brought the mobile app branding to life, turning it into something that truly connected with our audience. Her creativity, it’s off the charts.

Gabriella SvorcanAMP Bank

One of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met. She brings strategic thinking and incredible attention to detail, ensuring both the big picture and the finer points are executed with precision. An exceptional communicator. If you get the chance to work with Andy, take it. She will make your team better.

Rarely in your career do you recruit someone who masters their job function within months and very quickly becomes an asset to the company. Andy executed to a very high standard across a range of marketing disciplines, a valuable addition to any driven marketing team.

Andy’s strategic thinking and the seamless execution of our plans, even within tight timelines, were instrumental in the successful launch of the #GoForward content hub across the Australian, Canadian and UK markets, in record time. I’d welcome the chance to collaborate again.

Questions

The things people usually ask.

And if yours isn't here, the triage is the place to ask it.

A free 30-minute call to work out what's actually worth fixing first across your brand, marketing, creative or workflow. No pitch, no obligation, just a clear-headed conversation and an honest steer.

If you're a sole trader up to a team of around 20, you're exactly who Brandling is for. Smaller businesses often get the most out of senior thinking, because every decision counts for more.

It's the senior calibre big brands pay for, scoped to what your business actually needs, without agency layers, account management or a full-time salary. You work directly with me, start to finish.

Yes, properly. Audits, channel strategy, content, creative production, paid social and measurement. For most small businesses social is the front line, so it's treated that way, not as an afterthought.

Not the way I set it up. The whole point is workflows that protect your voice and quality while saving you hours: AI doing the heavy lifting, your brand staying unmistakably yours.

Ready to make your business easier to understand, trust and choose?

Start with a free 30-minute Brandling triage. We'll work out what's worth fixing first, across your brand, marketing, creative or workflow.

Darren Wertheim, DOP

A working cinematographer with a real reputation and no brand to match it. Built the whole thing from a blank page, and handed over a kit he can actually run himself.

Naming directionBrand identityBrand guidelinesWebsite design & buildPitch packCopywritingSocial content

Context

Darren shoots for serious clients, but his presence online didn't say so: a name and a showreel, with nothing tying them together or signalling the calibre of the work.

The brief

Build an identity and site that feel as cinematic and considered as the footage: premium, restrained, and unmistakably his, without becoming a maintenance burden.

What Brandling did

Shaped the positioning, designed the identity and guidelines, wrote the copy, then designed and built the site and a reusable pitch pack: the thinking and the making, end to end.

The approach

One signature device, a film-frame accent and a quiet ghost monogram, carried across every touchpoint, so the whole brand reads as one system rather than separate pieces.

In Darren’s words

“I never knew what I wanted my brand to be. I only knew what I hated. Somehow that was enough for Andy to work with. She turned ‘not that’ into something that actually looks like me, and made the whole thing painless, which for someone who dreads self-promotion is saying a lot. I’ve had a steady run of enquiries since the website went live. Thanks Andy. Couldn’t be happier.”

Mayan Palace Stonework

A master stonemason with a serious reputation and no website to match it. Brandling took the business online end to end, and built the digital home the craft deserves.

Web design & buildBrand & art directionCopywritingContent strategyDomain & email setupImage retouchingSEO & local searchAnalytics & lead tracking

Context

Aldo’s work stands on some of WA’s most striking sites, from the Kalbarri Skywalk to century-old heritage churches. Online, he was a Facebook page. Referrals kept hitting a dead end.

The brief

Take the business online properly. Build a site that feels the way the stonework does: premium, warm, unhurried, built to last. Easy to enquire, light enough for a sole trader to run.

What Brandling did

Sorted the domain and professional email, drew the brand direction from the stone itself, retouched 60+ photos, wrote the copy, then designed and built the site end to end. Big-brand calibre, small-biz reality, delivered through Brandling’s AI-assisted workflow.

The approach

Every detail borrows from the mason’s trade: setting-out numbers, coursing-line rules, corner-bracket framing. So it reads as built, not decorated. Handcrafted feel, AI-accelerated delivery.

Sewcial Club

A sewing brand built from the first stitch: name, strategy, identity, social setup and launch content for a community designed to make sewing feel easier, warmer and more joyful.

Naming directionBrand strategyBrand identityLogo designBrand guidelinesSocial setupContent creation

Context

Sewing is creative, practical and genuinely good for the brain, but getting started can feel intimidating. Patterns, fabrics, tools, tutorials, suppliers, techniques… there’s a lot to untangle before the machine even turns on.

The brief

Create a brand for an online sewing community that could welcome brave beginners, still feel credible to seasoned makers, and appeal to sewing suppliers, artists and small businesses, without falling into old-fashioned craft clichés.

What Brandling did

Named the brand, shaped the strategy, designed the logo and identity system, built the brand guidelines, set up the social channels and created launch content to give Sewcial Club a clear, consistent presence from day one.

The approach

The name combines sewing with the social side of making. The identity uses an edited Grand Bold wordmark, heart-shaped pin details, a smile in the “U” and a pattern-making notch in the “C” to create a brand that feels playful, welcoming and rooted in the craft.

Brandling (yes, this site)

Eighteen years of building brands for other people, and nothing with her own name on it. So Brandling became its own first client: same standard, no shortcuts.

Naming & voiceStrategy & positioningBrand identityGuidelinesCopywritingSocials & LinkedInEmail signatureWeb design & buildPhysics engineAnalytics & AI workflow

Context

18+ years building brands for Qantas, CommBank and GoDaddy, and nothing to point at with her own name on it. Brandling launched as its own first client: same standard, no shortcuts.

The brief

Prove the promise. Senior thinking and making in one pair of hands, with AI doing the heavy lifting and none of the thinking. If the site couldn’t demonstrate that, the pitch didn’t deserve to work.

What Brandling did

The name, the positioning, the voice. The three-ball identity and the guidelines behind it. Every line of copy. The socials and LinkedIn presence, the email signature, then the design, code, analytics and deployment of this site. End to end, one person, AI-assisted throughout.

The approach

The identity starts with three juggling balls: brand, marketing and creative, the three things every business owner is juggling, and the three things Brandling catches. That one idea pulls through everything, the logo, the coral full stops, the templates, the socials, and a custom physics engine in about 70 lines of vanilla JavaScript that lets you actually play with the balls. One hand-coded HTML file, no frameworks. Analytics designed around business questions, not vanity metrics.
